CO₂ gas Food grade
What is CO₂?
CO₂ or carbon dioxide is an inorganic compound of carbon and oxygen. In its pure state, it is a colorless and odorless gas that occurs naturally in the atmosphere.
How long can CO₂ be stored?
CO₂ has an indefinite shelf life in the gas cylinders if the valve is properly closed.
Can a CO₂ gas cylinder be placed in the sun?
We do not recommend placing the gas cylinder directly in the sun. The heat causes the pressure inside the cylinder to rise, which can lead to dangerous situations or trigger the safety valve. Always store gas cylinders in a cool, well-ventilated place.
Where is the best place to store the CO₂ gas cylinder?
It is best to place CO₂ gas cylinders out of direct sunlight in a ventilated environment.
Why is a residual pressure valve used?
A residual pressure valve prevents unwanted substances from entering the gas cylinder. This keeps the CO₂ pure and free from contamination, even after refilling. This guarantees that our gas cylinders always meet the highest food-grade standards. Therefore, aquarium gas cylinders are not used for food applications.
Why are food grade gas cylinders slightly more expensive?
Because Janox only works with reusable gas cylinders and residual pressure valves. This allows us to guarantee the exact same food-grade quality, even after more than 10 years. For this reason, our gas cylinders become cheaper in the long run due to their longer lifespan.
Is the CO₂ gas for food grade the same as for aquarium?
Yes, all the gas we use is of laboratory grade.
However, we use a separate circuit of gas cylinders for aquariums (blue label) and food (orange label). Gas cylinders that no longer meet food-grade standards can still be used for aquariums, but not vice versa.
We monitor this strictly because it is our way of guaranteeing you flawless quality.
CO₂ gas for aquarium
Which gas cylinders can I buy for my aquarium?
Make sure you have the specific valve... At Janox, we sell gas cylinders with a capacity of 0.5kg, 1kg, 1.5kg, 2kg, 4kg, 5kg, 10kg, 20kg, and 50kg.
You can recognize the cylinders for aquarium use by the blue label.

Dry ice
What is dry ice?
Dry ice or carbon dioxide snow, is the solid form of carbon dioxide (CO₂) and is primarily used for cooling. Dry ice, also known as smoke ice, can also be used for smoke effects at events and parties.
In what form can I buy dry ice?
Slices are the ideal form for maintaining temperature over longer periods. They also have a longer shelf life. Under normal conditions, a 30 kg box loses about 4 kg per day, depending on what it is packed in. The dry ice we sell through the webshop is available in pellets/sticks (per kilo).
How is dry ice delivered if I order online?
We provide thermal packaging tailored to the quantity you ordered, which is then delivered to you by us or an external carrier.
What is dry ice blasting?
Dry ice blasting is a technique where surfaces are cleaned by spraying dry ice pellets onto them under high pressure. The cleaning effect is partly due to the abrasive action of the pellets and partly due to the thermal shock (the sudden shrinking of the layer of dirt, causing it to detach from the substrate). Compared to older techniques like sandblasting, dry ice blasting has the advantage of leaving no residue behind.
Is dry ice dangerous?
No, dry ice is not dangerous in itself. We do recommend handling the ice with thermal gloves to prevent cold burns.
